Gregory Rummelt

Greg Rummelt has been a student at The Potter’s House since kindergarten. It’s the only school he’s ever known. Greg’s mom Felicia Smith was not a Christian when she entered Greg at The Potter’s House. Felicia shared, “In those days, I was not walking with the Lord, but I knew that I wanted my son in a Christian school where they’d teach him about Jesus. I knew I didn’t have much to teach him on that topic – but I knew it was important.”

The witness of God’s love at the school played a key role in Felicia giving her life to Christ. “Before I had a good job, The Potter’s House offered me love, grace and mercy – everything that God stands for. They never treated me or my children differently. When I didn’t have money for school supplies they pulled me aside and gave me backpacks and supplies for my children. When I didn’t have any money for Christmas presents, they made sure that a family adopted us and gave us gifts.”

Greg added to his mom’s praise for the school by saying that he is grateful to the staff and teachers who work at The Potter’s House. He is especially touched that Mr. Ponstine (PK-8 principal) and Mr. Booy (superintendent) know and greet each student by name. “To be able to say, that’s the kid. It makes me feel great. This is another home for me. If I have a problem, I can talk to a teacher and let him know how I feel or what I am going through. When I come here, I feel relieved and I don’t have to think about the stressors in my life.”

Greg is a key participant in our middle school neighborhood prayer program. Every Wednesday, he and the other six middle school boys canvas four streets in the neighborhood asking the residents for prayer requests. “We can see the pain that people are in. They welcome us in and tell us right away what they want us to pray for. We pray right then with them if they have time. Many of the neighbors wish we would come by more than once a week.” Greg became a prayer warrior through his time in Anchor Worship and Discipleship at school, but his mom also set a godly example.

“My mom’s a nurse and she always talks to people about God. She always asks her patients if she can pray with them. If they say yes, she sits on their bed and prays right then. I want to be like her and help save someone’s life and talk about God to them like she does.” In fact, Greg hopes to grow up to be a pastor and a firefighter. Greg feels saving lives is a high calling. Until that time, Greg can be found here at The Potter’s House playing basketball, hanging with friends, and diligently praying for the school’s neighbors.
